Embroidery pricing calculator / Embroidery cost per 1,000 stitches
Embroidery cost per 1,000 stitches
This page converts your own timing into a per-item quote. Time the machine, divide to get minutes per 1,000 stitches, type that rate into the homepage embroidery pricing calculator, and read the ledger. The site does not publish an industry rate per 1,000 stitches. Published lists already disagree.
Stitch count does not price the ticket
Stitch count is stored on the job ticket and does not change the calculated quote. The live ticket opens at 8,000 stitches, quantity 24, and machine runtime 0. That stitch count still does not move the price.
The sole exception is your own measured minutes per 1,000 stitches. Then machine runtime per item = stitch count ÷ 1,000 × your minutes, and that field follows the result. Handling / active labor is not changed.
Starting values on first load
These are placeholders, not industry standards.
Labor cost per hour: $35.00
Materials per item: $3.00
Markup: 2.5×
Handling / active labor: 10 minutes
Machine runtime: 0 minutes
Quantity: 1 to 10,000. The ticket opens at 24. No minimum-order fee is invented. If you charge a minimum, type it into one-time fixed order cost or per-item additional cost.
Derive your minutes, then the quote
If 8,000 stitches take 4.8 minutes on your machine, minutes per 1,000 stitches are 4.8 ÷ 8 = 0.6. Type 0.6 into the minutes field. Do not type a retail price per 1,000.
At the $35.00 placeholder, 4.8 minutes is 4.8 ÷ 60 × $35.00 = $2.80 of machine labor, or $0.35 per 1,000 stitches. That $0.35 is this wage times this timing, not a market rate, and handling is not inside it.
Eight lines, in homepage order
1. Labor minutes per item = machine runtime + handling / active labor time
2. Labor cost per item = labor minutes per item ÷ 60 × labor cost per hour
3. Recurring cost per item = labor + materials + per-item additional cost
4. Total batch cost = recurring cost per item × quantity + one-time fixed order cost
5. Suggested retail per item = ceil((batch cost × markup) ÷ quantity) to the next cent
6. Estimated revenue = suggested retail price × quantity
7. Estimated profit = estimated revenue − total batch cost
8. Estimated margin = estimated profit ÷ estimated revenue × 100
Worked quote: 8,000 stitches, 0.6 min per 1,000
Handling 10 minutes, labor $35.00 per hour, materials $3.00, per-item additional $0.00, one-time fixed $0.00, markup 2.5×, quantity 24.
Machine runtime = 8,000 ÷ 1,000 × 0.6 = 4.8 minutes. Handling stays 10.
Labor minutes = 4.8 + 10 = 14.8
Labor cost = 14.8 ÷ 60 × $35.00 = $8.6333…, rounded to $8.63
Recurring cost per item = $8.63 + $3.00 = $11.63
Total batch cost = $11.63 × 24 = $279.12
Suggested retail per item = ceil(($279.12 × 2.5) ÷ 24) = ceil($29.075) = $29.08
Estimated revenue = $29.08 × 24 = $697.92
Estimated profit = $697.92 − $279.12 = $418.80
Estimated margin = $418.80 ÷ $697.92 × 100 = 60.0%
The same ticket with the minutes field empty and machine runtime left at 0 is the homepage first load: suggested retail $22.08 on a $211.92 batch (labor $5.83, recurring $8.83, revenue $529.92, profit $318.00, margin 60.0%). Stitch count is still 8,000. Only the opt-in 0.6 minutes moves the quote to $29.08.
What the calculator refuses to do
Same items as the homepage heading “Not included in the math.” None of these are guessed.
Digitizing and artwork setup unless you enter them as a fixed or additional cost
Machine overhead, maintenance and depreciation
Backing waste and rejected pieces
Blank garment sourcing beyond the materials figure you enter
Shipping and packaging unless you enter them as a fixed or additional cost
Sales tax, payment processing fees and discounts
Minimum order or rush charges beyond the one-time fixed order cost and per-item additional cost you enter
No conversion table is printed here. A grid of sample timings is easy to read as a market rate.
Open the embroidery pricing calculator, enter your measured minutes per 1,000 stitches, leave handling as its own field, and copy the quote.
Do the arithmetic on your own numbers
The embroidery pricing calculator turns machine runtime, handling time, your hourly shop cost, materials and a markup you choose into a per-item cost and a suggested retail price. It runs in your browser, quotes in USD, and it never supplies a stitch rate of its own — every figure starts from a number you enter.

Questions about embroidery cost per 1,000 stitches
Does stitch count change the price by itself?
No. It stays on the ticket. The price moves only when you enter your own minutes per 1,000 stitches, which sets machine runtime and leaves handling unchanged.
Does this page publish a dollar rate per 1,000 stitches?
No. Any dollar figure is your timing times your wage. It is not a market rate.
Is there a minimum order fee?
No. Quantity runs from 1 to 10,000. Type a minimum into one-time fixed order cost or per-item additional cost if you charge one.
